We believe it’s so important to start your day off right with a morning routine you love. Your morning routine sets the tone for your day, and having a routine you look forward to makes waking up that much easier. The Encircled team has been working from home for over two months now, and we like to think we’ve developed some pretty great morning routines. So, whether you’re creating a new routine, trying to improve an existing one, or just looking for some WFH style inspo, checkout how our team does WFH mornings!
6:30AM - My alarm goes off and I make myself get up right away, because I’ve been known to turn my alarm off in my sleep!
6:45AM - I’ll wash my face and put on my favourite serum by The Ordinary - Niacinamide & Zinc. This has been a game-changer for my skin, and I use it morning and night! I try not to wear much makeup when working from home, so I opt for some moisturizer and a little bit of the Drunk Elephant Sunshine Drops (my new skincare obsession), to give my skin a bit of a glow.
7:00AM - I’ll sit down and write in my Five Minute Journal, and try to wake up my very sleepy dog! Gatbsy never likes getting up in the mornings so I usually just sit beside him and write a few quick daily affirmations to set good intentions for my day.
7:15AM - I’ll get changed for the day, always picking something ultra comfortable! I love WFH outfits that look professional for video meetings with my team, but are also versatile enough to pop outside for walks with my dog. My go-to outfit lately has been our black Dressy Sweatpants paired with our black Evolve Top.
7:30AM - I’ll finally get my dog Gatsby up and out of bed and take him outside for a walk around my neighbourhood. We live right beside a park so we spend lots of time there in the morning - he’s a Jack Russell so he needs lots of exercise! I always listen to a podcast on my walks, and right now I am loving Brené Brown’s new podcast!
8:15AM - I love coffee and it’s one of the things that I look forward to most in the morning. In the warmer months I typically only have iced with oat or almond milk! Once my coffee is ready I’m prepared to start my work day.
8:30AM - I sit down at my desk and start by answering emails and preparing for meetings. I use planners and notebooks constantly, but I always write my to-do list the night before my work day so that I know exactly what I need to be working and I start my day feeling super organized!
6:30AM - My alarm goes off, and I prepare for my dog, Harlow, to jump in my bed. She’s the best alarm clock there is! I open my gratitude app and write a few things I’m grateful for, and what I’m looking forward to in the day.
6:45AM - I quickly wash my face and do my morning skincare routine ritual (see our post on skincare routines for my product list!), and put on the Dressy Leggings paired with a v-neck and cardigan. Then I'm out the door for a walk with Harlow. I usually grab a juice (Greenhouse Juice is my absolute favorite) to go. Harlow and I typically walk for about an hour in the morning which is a great way to get steps in, and take in the quiet city.
7:45AM - Back at home, I make a quick breakfast. I love avocado toast with eggs, faux bacon and arugula. At some point, I make about a litre of coffee. I’m not kidding on this one! I love Oat Milk, so I usually dilute with that and add a little MCT oil for brain health. I also make Harlow her breakfast! She eats raw, so it’s a bit of extra work but worth it. If I have time, I’ll do a quick 10 minute meditation using the Calm app.
8:30AM - I sit down at my desk (currently, my dining room table). The first thing I do is review my schedule for the day and my goals for the week. I start preparing for meetings, and then dive into my inbox. Mornings usually consist of meetings, checking Facebook ads, cash flow, and responding to emails.
9:15AM - We meet as a team for our daily standup! It’s our one chance to see our whole team as close to as ‘in real life’ as possible on google hangouts. We do a quick check in on how everyone is feeling, review yesterday’s business results and talk about what we’re working on for the day.
7:00AM - My alarm goes off. I hit snooze a couple of times before finally getting up.
7:15AM - I head straight to my espresso machine to get it warmed up. Then, I pour myself a fresh glass of water and drink about half of my mason jar along with my vitamins while I keep waking up.
7:20AM - I head to my bathroom, brush my teeth and splash cold water on my face. Once I’m done that, I put my Drunk Elephant SPF on (yes, even though I’m inside almost all day - sun protection is no joke!), and I roll some of my Noto perfume onto my wrists and the ends of my hair. I keep my Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask near me at all times (it’s too good to use solely at night).
7:30AM - I head back to my espresso machine and make Americanos for myself and my boyfriend. I drink mine with a splash of milk and cinnamon sprinkled on top.
7:45-8:00AM - I sit down at my desk and start checking my personal and work email and choose a podcast to listen to while I get organized for my day!
6:00AM - I wake up to an alarm and will usually scroll on social media for 30 minutes to help me wake up.
6:30AM - I get out of bed and go for a 30 minute walk to jump start my day. My WFH style is very comfy casual. Today I went for a pair of leggings, a loose fitting tank and my encircled twist top. The twist top is the perfect layer to throw on for my morning walks when it’s still a bit chilly out.
7:00AM - When I get back from my walk I’ll pour myself a cup of iced coffee. I typically make a mason jar of coffee on Sunday that I leave in the fridge and will drink throughout the week. While I drink my coffee I’ll read a few chapters of my book. I’m currently reading 'Truly Madly Guilty' by Liane Moriarty!
7:45-8:00AM - After my coffee I’ll brush my teeth and wash my face. My skin care routine is pretty non existent (leave any skin care tips in the comments below, I’m always looking for some good tips!). I’ll wash my face with the ’simple’ face wash, apply the Ordinary caffeine solution to help with my under eye circles and top it off with some moisturizer.
8:15AM - I’ll settle in at my computer and start planning for the day ahead, I’m a big fan of a to do list! I write out my tasks for the day and assign them each a time I’d like to accomplish them by. This helps keep me on track.
9:15AM - Time for our daily team stand up! Our stand ups are a great way to keep an open line of communication while we WFH. We talk about what we worked on the day before and what we’re working on for the day ahead.
10:30-11AM - Around this time I’ll start to get a little hungry. My go-to at home or in the office is a classic bowl of oatmeal! & If I’m feelin’ it I’ll have another coffee.
6:30AM - No alarm needed after having children, my body has now adjusted to early wake-ups! I wake up to the smell of fresh coffee, this is really what jump-starts me for a day with my toddlers, and now that we school from home and work from home, coffee is the most important part of my morning! This is also the time I take to gather my thoughts and read my emails uninterrupted! Which I absolutely love doing in my outdoor space!
7:30AM - The morning becomes a little busier, the kids wake up and we try to eat a well-rounded breakfast! Who are we kidding, it's normally blueberry waffles!! We have our morning news and entertainment thanks to a little pig named Peppa.
8:45AM - At this point my boys are being entertained by my husband, who is getting them ready for the day, while I have my morning mom time which involves showering, if I am lucky without a toddler or two with me! After my shower I then complete my morning face routine using my body shop Tea Tree Facial Scrub, Body Shop Vitamin c Moisturizer, and my Neutrogena SPF 70 face cream for my fair, fair skin!
9:15AM - It’s time for school. The Teacher today is - Mom!
10:30AM - My son finishes with his virtual google classroom! I prepare a few lessons for him then we head outside to enjoy some outdoor time! We do this first with a nice long bike ride, followed by endless hours of summertime fun!
This is really it for my morning routine as a mom! The work from home portion of my day with Encircled actually starts at 7:00 pm, which I love doing in some of my Encircled wear, my favourites are the Evolve Top and Dressy Sweatpants!
7:30-8AM - My multiple alarms go off. Two things can usually happen during this half hour. Either I get up and start my day with a quick stretch and work out, or I hit the snooze button three times.
8:00AM - Regardless of my decision for earlier in the day, I’m up now because my little cat knows it’s breakfast time and is yelling at me. I feed him, take my probiotics, drink a big cup of water, turn on the kettle and head back upstairs to jump in the shower.
8:20AM - I do my skin care routine. Sometimes I will pop on a little tinted moisturizer, bronzer and mascara if I am feeling fancy.
8:30AM - Get dressed. I put on my favourite reclaimed Levi's jeans (fashioned from an old mens pair!), and paired it with my Remix 2-Way Boxy Top. I have this top in Navy, and the original version from 2018 in Black. I am obsessed with its versatility.
8:35-8:45AM - My favourite routine of the day! We are coffee snobs in my household, so coffee is a process. I’m spending about 10 minutes here grinding beans and slowly swirling the water from my gooseneck tea kettle into the grinds in my pour over Chemex container. I find this time so relaxing and meditative. I can mull over my day while my house fills with the smell of fresh coffee. I pour a cup for myself and my boyfriend (mine sweetened with some almond milk creamer), and head over to my computer.
8:50AM - I review my calendar and notebook for tasks I finished the day before. If any need following up or finishing, I’ll find space to add them to my calendar. Then I review my schedule for the day ahead. I plan my calendar days in advance, so usually there is a pretty full day ahead of me already at this point!
9:00AM - I get on slack to check any messages that I may have missed the night before. Usually I have a few questions for my coworkers that I have thought of during my coffee routine, so I check in with them.
9:15AM - Most mornings Encircled has a daily team meeting around this time. We check in on how each staff member is doing, and talk about what we have going on for the day ahead. It helps us stay connected as a team despite not seeing each other in person often.
9:45AM - After the team meeting, I usually spend the next 30 minutes or so updating spreadsheets, calling our manufacturers and catching up on emails.
10:30AM - Most of the time I’m fasting from 8pm-12pm, so I don’t eat breakfast and just have coffee until lunch time. If I’m not fasting, I’ll eat breakfast around this time. Typically it’s overnight oats and peanut butter! From here until lunch, I am putting my head down and getting work done, typically with a podcast playing in the background.
